Biosolids Management Master Plan
Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission
Who We Are
The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) is one of the largest wastewater utilities in the United States. We serve over 1.5 million residents across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, and Passaic counties, treating wastewater to high standards before safely returning it to New York Harbor to re-enter the water cycle.
A Cleaner Future Starts Here
At PVSC, we're committed to turning waste into opportunity. Our biosolids program transforms the byproducts of wastewater treatment into safe, nutrient-rich materials that benefit the environment and support sustainable communities.
What Are Biosolids?
Biosolids are the treated solid materials left over after wastewater is cleaned. Once disinfected and stabilized, these materials become valuable resources used in agriculture, landscaping, and even renewable energy.
Our Vision
PVSC is updating its Biosolids Management Master Plan to reflect the latest technologies, environmental standards, and community values.
Our goal is to create a biosolids strategy that is:
We’re evaluating multiple treatment options and want your input as we shape the future.
