Frequently Asked Questions

    • Growing Population: As our region’s population grows, we will need to treat more wastewater and therefore have more biosolids.

    • Aging Infrastructure: Our plant is due for an update, and we’d like to ensure that we incorporate a sustainable and long lasting biosolids treatment plan into new plant design plans.

    • Environmental Standards: We want to build a plan that not only exceeds present environmental standards but will also meet more stringent standards in future.

    • Sustainability Market: Biosolids are used in many ways as energy sources, fertilizer, compost, for landscaping, and in many other ways. As the market for biosolids increases, we hope to contribute.

  • PVSC currently treats biosolids using a process called Zimpro. The Zimpro process involves heating the wastewater and solids up to very high temperatures, decanting the solids from the water, and then disinfecting the solids and water separately.
